Steven Heller highlights the ICON 5 podcasts in The Daily Heller at PRINT Magazine.

Icon 5 Podcast in The Daily Heller

The aforementioned STEP Inside Design piece featuring Citizen Scholar is now available on the magazine’s website.

Christopher J. Nuernberger has been documenting his perspective on the people and approaches that have defined the changing discipline of design in series titled Who We Are. He points to the work of Milton Glaser, Joe Duffy, Alan Fletcher and, one of my favorite artists, Andy Warhol. I was surprised and honored to see that our work was included in his review. In Chris’s words:

His name is Randy J. Hunt and he is changing the shape of our profession. No longer is it just OK to be a good designer. Now it takes a thirst to be so much more, to do things not only better but different and on a bigger scale.

Chris, we couldn’t agree more. Thinking big has helped a lot more people than it’s hurt. It is our perspective that we’re responsible not only for moving from A to B through design but also to imagine B to be the most healthy, enjoyable, sustaining enterprise it can be.

A huge thanks to Chris for including Citizen Scholar.

“The combination of confidence and curiosity has produced what I believe is a force to be reckoned with in the design field.” So says design scholar, historian and art director Steven Heller about Citizen Scholar founder Randy J. Hunt.

He and Citizen Scholar are featured in STEP Inside Design’s annual Field Guide to Emerging Talent.

The Jan/Feb 2008 Issue of STEP is on newsstands now.

It looks like Die Gestalten Verlag, one of my favorite publishers, is giving some love to the upcoming Post Expose exhibition. Thanks DGV!

The portfolio book we designed for photographer Wheat Wurtzburger is featured in a new book published by Rockport Publishers. Mastering Materials, Bindings, and Finishes: The Art of Creative Production by Catherine Fishel features design projects with innovative use of finishing materials, biding methods and production techniques.

Wheat Wurtzburger’s portfolio was featured because of it’s adventurous cover and binding. The covers of the post-bound book are printed on a reflective, adhesive metallic mylar. Beyond adding a intense mirror-like shine to the cover, the flexible but durable mylar acts as the hinges of the book. Of course, it’s all there to bring attention to Wheat’s beautiful photography. Congrats Wheat, and thanks Catherine. We’re proud to be included.

It looks like Design Taxi was the first to push the news from the SVA MFA Designer As Author graduate program that both Ryan and I study in. Our thesis exhibition opens in may and all the press goodness is starting now. So much more to come…

Wheat Wurtzburger's portfolio book

This portfolio book, designed for Wheat Wurtzburger, will be included in The Art of Creative Production published next spring by Rockport Publishers.

This week, Metropolis magazine’s 25th Anniversary issue hits newsstands with a dizzying collection of reflections and projects.

Putting typography into a contemporary perspective, I’m quoted from an interview with Karrie Jacobs, along with the likes of Jonathan Hoefler, in her article “Type 1987” Revisited.

Update: Link now available.

The fall issue of Se7en Magazine has launched. We designed pgs. 31-35 for Wheat Wurtzburger. We did his site too.
