I’m happy to officially announce and welcome Zachary Granger Moldof into the fold as member of the Citizen Scholar team. Zachary’s command of language and well-tuned critical eye for the tangibles and intangibles of the world at large result in borderless question-asking that I’m proud to be in dialogue with.
What follows is an unedited bio of Zachary. It will be edited and later included on our new site, but in the meantime, please do get to know Zachary. He may be contacted at: zachary@citizenscholar.com.
A bio:
The first thing that you should know about Zachary Granger Moldof is that he actually exists, he is neither a fictitious character, nor a superfluous element of an insurance scam. He consists of two aspects: that which is cellular, and that which is metaphysical. He was never given better than a ‘B’ in any of his Creative Writing courses, go figure. He enjoys the sublime abilities of nature, and the massive communal contexts of Earth. He has thoroughly enjoyed every Werner Herzog movie that he has seen.
The cellular Zachary Granger Moldof:
This man is alive and breathing, unless otherwise noted. He is Six feet and three inches tall, and of a trim build. He is primarily of Eastern European/Western Russian descent, and looks accordingly. He is well-kempt, but not obsessively maintained. He is currently studying the Benares Gharana of tabla. Zachary draws pictures with fine point pens. Zachary reads as often as possible. Zachary works with any medium available to him, and is always interested in learning more about any medium that could potentially be available to him. Zachary enjoys cooking food for eating. Zachary drinks tea regularly, and is always up for a tea date—as long as the tea is not bagged. Most likely, he is smiling right now.
The metphysical Zachary Granger Moldof:
This man’s disposition is constantly seeking more, in the form of knowledge, and experience. A friend-and well educated professorreffered to him as a lover of life, and this is true. There are three men who inform his ways of knowing, and serve as the cornerstones to the triangulation of his knowledge: R. Buckminster Fuller, Marhsall McLuhan, and John M. Cage. Zachary graduated from UCF in August of 2005. He completed a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies focusing on Art, Humanities, and Creative Writing. His undergraduate thesis utilized the musical theory of John Cage-”music is all around us, we just have to figure out how to hear it, not how to make it”-in a literary context, finding a way to allow text to operate without any linear singularity, or governed purpose. He is currently attending NYU’s Tisch school of the arts earning a Master’s degree in Performance Studies. Zachary is originally from Weston, Florida-a suburb of Fort Lauderdale. Growing up in an area bordered by the Everglades was a fortunate experience for Zachary, as he was exposed to limitless nature at his Western border. Most of Zachary’s lifework stems from a desire to utilize the least amount of energy in the most efficient manner, from opting to carry groceries without bags, to using grammar efficiently, the dymaxion state is an ideal aspiration.
These are some things that Zachary has said:
“I think that one of the functions of art is addressing the shortcomings of Collective Consciousness.”
“Re-inventing the wheel should be done strictly out of neccesity, because inventing the wheel is a tedious thing.”
“I really despise unneccesary modifiers a lot.”
“I went into an art gallery…and nothing happened to me.”
